The admission process to the desired university or scholarship program participation can be one of the most challenging stages in every applicant’s life, particularly when it is their first experience. Here are some tips that will help you succeed in 2022.
- Choose a university in advance, preferably several universities, so that you have a choice. While you may have a strong desire to apply to the university of your choice, it does not hurt to have a backup plan. Try to apply to several different universities with different entrance requirements to increase your chances of admission, regardless of your academic achievements.
- Do research on all the available information about the chosen universities. First of all, you can search for relevant information on the website of the chosen university. Generally, you can find information on fields of study, extracurricular and required courses, and information on typical career paths after graduation. Another good idea is to check social media, since most students create groups, share information about a university, and even help newcomers.
- Recommendation letters. Whenever recommendation letters are required for admission to a university, take time to determine who you want to ask to write them. Choose professors or other experts who know you well and who can (and will) describe your strengths in a detailed way and provide examples if needed.
- Be sure to write a strong motivation letter. This is an opportunity for you to tell the university why you should be accepted, why you want to study a particular field, and what you have already done to show an interest in the area of study. It is from the motivation letter that the admissions committee can build a picture of the applicant’s personality, goals, and strengths.
Typical letters of motivation have three parts: an introduction, the main body, and a conclusion. Pay special attention to writing the introduction and conclusion, as they will be kept in the memory of the admission committee and will help you create the best first impression.
Make sure all three parts of the motivation letter are clearly structured. Tell about yourself, your experience (if applicable), what skills, achievements, and personal qualities you possess, why you chose this particular university, and what career prospects you are considering. If your past experience is not relevant to the desired program, you may wish to list your volunteer experience, courses, or other work experience.
- Prepare for your interview. The interview is an opportunity for the university to get to know you better, while it gives you a chance to ask questions you are interested in. Read about the university, the chosen major, and write out what you are interested in. Also, review the motivation letter and be prepared to answer questions. Prepare questions you can ask the interviewer to show your interest. Practice your interview techniques, preferably with someone who understands these things a little bit. You can do it!
