DESY Summer Student Program 2025 in Germany, Exchange Program

Each summer Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) offers undergraduate students in physics or related disciplines (such as scientific computing and engineering) the opportunity to obtain first-hand research experience at a large international laboratory. The 2025 programme will take place from 22 July – 11 September 2025. Students are invited for an 8-week training period to experience research in one of the various fields pursued at DESY including:

• Photon science
• Elementary particle physics & accelerators
• Astroparticle physics

Eligibility:

• Applicants must have completed at least three years of full-time university-level studies in physics, related natural science disciplines, or computing by the summer of 2025.
• The program is open for undergraduate/bachelor’s students about to obtain their bachelor’s degree as well as those holding a bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a master’s degree.
• Applicants who have already completed a Master’s degree or will do so by the summer of 2025 are not eligible for the program.
• Previous participants in DESY Summer Student Program cannot apply again.
• Moreover, the majority of projects offered are designed for physics students, and applicants should be aware of this focus.
• Applicants for the DESY internship program need to be enrolled at their university for the entire program duration. Complying with German employment law for paid traineeships.
• All applicants must have a good working knowledge of English and possess basic computing skills to be eligible for the DESY Traineeship 2025 in Germany.
• Similarly, successful candidates must commit to the entire duration of the 2025 DESY summer program, from 22 July to 11 September 2025.
