DESY Summer Student Programme in Germany 2023

The DESY Summer Student Programme is a fully funded summer programme that will bring students from all over the world to Germany to spend their summer as well as some academic topics to be discussed during the programme.

The DESY summer programme is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The programme does not require an IELTS/TOEFL. DESY will select 100 participants from around the world.

Duration: 18 July to 7 September.

Benefits:

The advantage of the DESY summer programme is that it will cover all expenses:

– Living expenses scholarship for one person.

– Scholarship of 1,200 euros per month.

-Travel costs will be covered to and from Germany (flight tickets)

Eligibility:

• Applicants should have completed, by the summer of 2023, at least three years of full-time studies at university level in physics, related natural science disciplines or computing.
• Please take note that large majority of projects we offer is for physics students.
  The main target audiences are students who in summer 2023 are at the following two stages:
  – they are about to obtain their Bachelor degree.
  – they have a Bachelor degree and are within their Master degree studies.
  Applicants who already obtained a master-degree or will obtain it by summer 2023 are not accepted.
• Applicants should not have previously been at DESY as a Summer Student.
• Please take note that due to regulations for paid traineeships in Germany we can only accept students that are enrolled at their university for the whole period of the Summer Student Program.

Please take note that all applicants should have a good working knowledge of English and some basic computing skills. 

Documents to be uploaded:

In the course of this application you will have to upload a single document (only PDF format is accepted), containing:
– a CV (curriculum vitae), the CV should be in tabular form only and contain personal data, educational history / relevant work experience, computing and other relevant work skills (usually 1-2 pages are sufficient for the complete CV).
– University grade certificates (e.g. bachelor certificate, credit points, etc.).

• Applicants from NON-EU and NON-EEA countries need a work permit for Germany. This is German law and mandatory for attending the DESY Summer Student Progamme. Please upload a separate second document (in one .pdf file) containing:
  1. A copy of your international passport.
  2. A certificate of enrollment provided by your university. It has to cover the whole period of the programme, i.e. beginning of July to mid September 2023.
  3. IN ADDITION the Central Working Agency in Bonn requires the so called “Declaration of Certificate of Enrollment” which is also mandatory and has to be signed and stamped by your university, covering the same period of time (beginning of July to mid September 2023).

• The uploading of the documents is to be done on the second page of the online application form. If any of the requested documents is missing your application will not be considered.
• Two reference letters: Please note that you need to ask your two referees for their permission before giving their names and email addresses in this online form. The referees will get an automatic email notification with instructions where to upload their reference letters.
• At the end of the online application procedure, you will be asked to confirm the correctness of the data you entered. Your data will be electronically saved for 6 month and processed for the purposes of this summer students application procedure only.
• The selection process will take place after the end of the online application phase and all applicants will be notified by the end of March on the outcome. We or our project supervisors might contact you during February or March via email in case there are further questions to you regarding your interest and suitability for specific projects.
