Russian education is known for its long history, classical traditions, a powerful scientific base and a high level of personnel training. Years of experience are closely linked with modern technology, comfortable campuses and innovative laboratories. Nowadays, it has never been easier for foreign applicants to get a higher education at a Russian university: both on a commercial basis and on state scholarship. The government support and adaptation programmes for foreign applicants are constantly developing. Every year, scholarships are granted, and new forms of funding are available, including international grants and new scholarships.

Admission process

  1. Choose a programme and up to 6 universities
  2. Fill in your application online and enclose your application documents
  3. Apply for a competitive selection process in your country
  4. Receive an invitation to study and a study visa

You can apply for higher education in the personal account of the website. Before completing it, you should decide exactly on the level of education, form of study, financial option and preferably make a list of universities you are willing to study at.

Application form must be submitted together with:

– Scanned copy of the original foreign passport (certified translation into Russian)

– Transcript of Grade 11 in Russian for 2 terms

– Or Certificate of Educational Achievement

– Profile of the pupil in Russian

– Completed application form;

– Photo.

– Link to download your application form. Once you have downloaded it, you need to print it out and sign it. Then scan all pages into PDF format and upload it to your personal account.

In the application, you should select at least 6 universities in which you are prepared to study, according to the order of priority. It is allowed to choose no more than two universities in Moscow, no more than two universities in St. Petersburg, and no more than three universities in one federal district. It is important that all documents be translated into Russian and certified by a notary or consul. Once you have received information about admission to a particular university, check the list of required documents, as additional documents may be required.

Take the selection examination in your home country

For those entering under state funding within the government quota, the first stage of selection may require an interview with representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo or a consular office of the Russian Federation, as well as a selection test depending on the country.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Get information about interviews and selection examinations in your personal account.
  2. Register for an interview or selection examination (if registration is provided).
  3. By the deadline indicated in the registration for the interview or the selection examination, you will need to take part in the form specified for these events.
  4. The results of the interview and selection test will provide you with a score that will rank you among the applicants in your country and enable you to determine your chances of progressing to the second stage of the selection examination.
  5. Receive information in your personal account about your qualification for the second stage or rejection to study in Russia.

Second stage:

In the second stage of the selection process, candidates applying for state-funded studies, as well as applications for students applying from other sources of funding, are reviewed by universities.

Before you arrive in Russia, you should have all the necessary documents prepared. You will submit these documents to the admissions office when you arrive at the educational organisation. Here is a list of them:

  1. admission application;
  2. proof of identity and citizenship + notarised translation;
  3. education document indicating the qualification (degree) obtained, subjects studied and grades received in them + notarised translation;
  4. medical certificate on absence of HIV infection and contraindications for studying in the country in Russian or with notarized translation;
  5. 3×4 photo;

Note: Legalisation of documents (in Turkmenistan), is a stamp placed in a consulate of the Russian Federation confirming the authenticity of a document.
