The application for the Skoltech Russia Scholarship for national and international students is open. The scholarship aims to support international students wishing to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Russia.

Skoltech is a private research and academic institute based in Moscow. Founded in 2011 in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Skoltech aims to educate a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs to address important technological research challenges that Russia and the rest of the world may face in the future.

Today, Skoltech employs 136 professors, 143 graduate students and researchers, 202 engineers and technicians, and over 1,000 students. As of the end of 2018, funding for grants and R&D contracts exceeded 1 billion RUB and, by the end of 2019, will reach 1.5 billion RUB. Skoltech operates five joint laboratories with Russian and international technology leaders – Sberbank, Gazprom Neft, Huawei, Oerlikon and Topcon.

Details:

All applicants are automatically considered for funding ( tuition is free). Thus, candidates who successfully pass the admission process and are admitted to the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology will have the following advantages:

  1. Coverage of full tuition fee;
  2. health insurance;
  3. standard scholarship for master’s students is 40,000 RUB;
  4. for postgraduate students it can be up to 75,000 RUB;
  5. further financing will be decided on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Committee.

Skoltech criteria:

To apply for the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

– Candidates for Master’s programmes should have a relevant Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised university.

– Candidates for doctoral programmes must have a relevant Master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised university.

– Applications are accepted from both national and international students.

– Applicants must be in their final year of a bachelor’s degree or have an advanced degree (Bachelor, Master or Professional) with a good grade point average in one of the fields listed above.

– In addition, a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT, 450 on the TOEFL ITP or 6 on the IELTS test is required. The language certificate must be valid for 2 years after the test date. TOEFL or IELTS scores are not required if the applicant has a degree from a university where the language of instruction is English. No exceptions are made for this policy and only TOEFL and IELTS scores are accepted. Skoltech’s institutional code for TOEFL is iBT-2909. Or take the TOEFL ITP exam locally (check registration step 4 below).

– Those with a degree in the humanities or social sciences should have advanced knowledge in the fields of study offered by Skoltech.

Note: Skoltech receives more applications than places available. Therefore, meeting the minimum entry requirement does not necessarily guarantee admission.

How to apply for a Skoltech scholarship

There is no separate application for funding. All admitted Master’s and PhD students are automatically considered for funding. Therefore, applicants wishing to take advantage of the Skoltech Scholarship must complete the following steps in order to be admitted to Skoltech.

Step 1: Registration: https://apply.skoltech.ru/

Fill in the registration form to receive instructions on the application process. Please click on the apply button below to access the application form.

Step 2: Submit your application

Review the list of required supporting documents, upload them into the application system as they are ready and submit your application by the deadline.

Step 3: Online Test

Each candidate must take an online proficiency test. You will be notified by email about the specific date and time of your test.

Step 4: Exam

The final step of admission takes place in Moscow. You must take the TOEFL ITP exam on site or present a valid TOEFL certificate and undergo a personal interview. Additional written exams may be required for some programmes during this time (you will be notified in advance).

  3. and a motivation letter;
  4. Submission of TOEFL or IELTS test results is required during the “Selection Weekend”.” Applicants who do not have time to take either of these official tests will be able to take the TOEFL ITP during the “Selection Weekend” at Skoltech.
