The Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI) offers PhD fellowships for international students to conduct biomedical research in an international environment. The opportunity is open for the 2023 intake, applications will open in September. The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research is hosting the international fellowship in collaboration with the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, Department of Biomedicine of the University of Basel, Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of the ETH, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (TPH).

The fellows will receive interdisciplinary graduate teaching in a collaborative environment. FMI supports the international fellows with mentorship; the mentor committee consists of internal and external professionals. Fellows will also receive professional development support. The Dean of the students acts as a bridge between students and the administration of the university and FMI.

Duration: 4 to 5 years

Eligibility Criteria :

Here are the criteria to apply for the FMI Basel PhD fellowship in Switzerland:

  • Applicant must hold a master’s degree.
  • If the applicant is to receive the degree before the commencement of this program, they can apply.
  • The candidates are required to complete 12 semesters of their degree during the thesis.
  • Your Bachelor’s degree does not qualify you for this program.
