University of Vienna – Mathematical Foundations of Data Science 2025-year, bachelor’s degree

The University of Vienna is one of the most prestigious and largest universities in Europe and offers a wide range of degree programmes. The English-taught Bachelor program «Mathematical Foundations of Data Science» equips students with an excellent foundation in mathematics, statistics, and programming as well as interdisciplinary skills so they can become tomorrow’s leading data-driven problem solvers.
The tuition fee at Vienna Main University for non-EU foreigners is 750€ per semester. In total 6 semesters.
Admission Procedure

Step 2: Prepare the required documents
- Scan all required documents and save them in proper PDF-format.
- Merge several pages of the same document (e.g. front and back of the secondary-school leaving certificate plus translation) into one PDF file.
Step 3: Apply for admission and register: http://uspace.univie.ac.at/en
- Upload the required documents.
- enter the OSA code.
- Click on “continue to submission” and check the summary to see if the data you entered (especially your e-mail address) is correct.
- Then, click on “pay and submit application” and pay the administration fee of 50 Euro
Step 4: Prepare for the test with recommendations and sample exercises

Step 5: The aptitude test
At least 14 days before the test date, you will receive an e-mail with information on the place, time and procedure of the written test as well as the link to your permission to attend: https://studieren.univie.ac.at/en/entrance-exam/test-details/#c1180056
Step 6: Waiting for the test result and admission letter

Step 8: Order the u:card and create your semester schedule. As soon as the tuition fee/Students’ Union fee is received, you can order your student ID card, the u:card.
Note: If you do not have your secondary-school leaving certificate yet, enter the relevant information. You can already register for the aptitude test procedure and upload your secondary-school leaving certificate later.
Required English proficiency at level B2
- TOEFL: IBT (internet-based): 94 points or higher
- IELTS Academic: Overall Band Score: 6.5 points
- Cambridge English First Certificate (FCE): result level B2
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): result level B2
- Language Competency Examination at level B2 by a university language centre. The language centre has to be located at a university in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
Your steps in the aptitude test and admission procedure depend on which country your secondary-school leaving certificate was issued in. The language of instruction in this degree programme is English. A proof of German language proficiency is not required.
