The Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan has begun accepting applications for the 2027 Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Programs for foreign students. Four scholarship categories are available.

 

Programs and Eligibility

  1. Research Student (Graduate / Postgraduate)

Eligibility: Must have graduated from a university (current-year graduates are eligible). Born on or after April 2, 1992.

Program details: Includes 6 months of Japanese language preparatory training upon arrival in Japan, followed by research and study in graduate school in the chosen field. The standard program duration is 2 years. If the student is admitted to a higher-level institution to pursue an academic degree during this period, the duration may be extended.

  1. Undergraduate Student (Bachelor’s Degree)

Eligibility: Must have completed 12 years of school education or equivalent (current-year graduates are eligible). Born on or after April 2, 2002.

Program details: Includes a 1-year Japanese language preparatory course at the Center for Japanese Language Education for International Students at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies or Osaka University of Foreign Studies, after which students enrol in university. Duration is 5 years (7 years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and pharmacy). The duration may be extended for those who continue to master’s or doctoral programs.

  1. Technological College Student (Vocational Technical Education)

Eligibility: Must have completed 11 years of school education or equivalent (current-year graduates are eligible). Born on or after April 2, 2002.

Program details: Students will study at technological colleges following a Japanese language preparatory course. Total duration is 4 years (including 1-year language training). Students choosing the ‘Merchant Ship’ specialty will study for 4 years and 6 months.

  • (1) Mechanics
  • (2) Electricity and Electronics
  • (3) Information and Communication Networks
  • (4) Materials
  • (5) Architecture
  • (6) Construction
  • (7) Merchant Ship
  • (8) Other — Note: Choosing ‘Other’ may cause difficulties finding a suitable institution. It is recommended to choose from (1)–(7) wherever possible.
  1. Specialized Training College Student (Vocational College Level)

Eligibility: Must have completed 12 years of school education or equivalent (current-year graduates are eligible). Born on or after April 2, 2002.

Program details: Students will study at specialized training colleges following a Japanese language preparatory course. Total duration is 3 years (including 1-year language training).

Available specialties (choose one):

  • (1) Industry
  • (2) Hygiene
  • (3) Education and Social Welfare
  • (4) Commerce
  • (5) Clothing, Decoration, and Home Economics
  • (6) Culture and Education

Note: If selecting ‘Other’ within the above 6 specialties, clearly state the preferred specialty, preferred subject, and reason. Be aware there is a possibility of not being accepted by the institution or choosing not to enrol.

Important: The Japanese language examination is mandatory for all applicants, even if they do not plan to use Japanese during their studies in Japan.

Required Documents

Applicants must carefully review the eligibility conditions and submit their documents to the Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan. The full list of required documents for each program is available through the official Study in Japan website linked below.

How to Apply

  • Review the eligibility conditions for your chosen program carefully.
  • Download the application forms and guidelines from the Study in Japan official website.
  • Prepare all required documents as specified by the Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan.
  • Submit your application documents to the Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan by the deadline.
  • Attend the written examination on June 14, 2026 (Sunday).
